Scott Cohen is a seasoned civil rights attorney with extensive experience representing law enforcement officers and municipalities in federal and state court. Before joining Hervas, Condon & Bersani, Scott served as an Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor with the City of Chicago Department of Law, where he spent more than twelve years defending Chicago police officers and the City of Chicago in complex civil rights litigation. In addition to his own caseload, he also supervised and trained attorneys in trial practice and case strategy. He has extensive jury trial experience, including securing a defense verdict in a fatal officer-involved shooting case.

Scott’s civil litigation experience also includes work with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, where he represented state agencies and employees in a broad range of matters in both federal and state court. Earlier in his career, he gained significant criminal trial experience as a prosecutor for the City of Chicago.

Scott earned his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2007 and his B.A. in political science, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 2004. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois.

Outside of his practice, Scott is an avid road cyclist, enjoys playing guitar, and is a dedicated coffee enthusiast.
